The girls have been back in school for over three weeks now. I think I echo the resounding feeling that it’s so nice to be back on a schedule again. Summer was great and all, but man it’s nice to be back to school! We are finally back in a groove and Lauren’s first volleyball game of the season was this weekend.

I can’t tell you how much fun it was to see her and her teammates play. Last season feels like ages ago!

So an interesting difference from the US – On game days, there are three teams that compete. Two teams play, and the third team refs with the guidance of their coach. Evidently it’s pretty expensive here to hire refs on the weekend, AND it’s really good experience for the girls to take a leadership position and learn how to call plays.

So proud of these ISD Lions – One of the teams that showed only brought 5 players, so they had to forfeit. They still played a practice game for fun, so that was a great warmup. The girls also won their second game they played against Hellerhof SV. (25-4, 21-25, 15-8). Evidently the girls they played won the championship last year, so they were feeling pretty good to pull out the big ‘W’.

Next up? Away game in the Netherlands next weekend. Just a quick 2.5 hr car trip (for those of us taking a car…not sure about the bus).
